California governor floats $100M plan for tribes to buy land

SACRAMENTO, California (AP) – Gavin Newsom of California plans to give $ 100 million to American families.

Newsom said on Friday that families could use the money to buy and maintain their ancestral land.

It is part of Newsom’s plan to ensure that one -third of California’s land and beaches are protected by 2030.

Before the government could do anything, Newsom said family leaders should have a say in which lands to be protected.

Newsom spoke to family leaders at the California Truth & Healing Council.

Some members of the council said they supported the plan but feared implementation would be difficult.
