After a two-year hiatus, Cal Poly Pomona hosted on Friday, May 20, the first of 12 on-campus personal start ceremonies.
More than 7,200 members of the 2022 Class will be joined by about 1,000 graduates from the summer and fall 2021 ceremonies throughout the weekend. Including family and friends, more than 64,600 people are expected to attend university ceremonies Friday through Sunday.
Those receiving honorary degrees and speaking over the weekend include Violet Palmer, Class of 1988, the first female referee in the NBA, and Larry Gates, Class of 1987, co-founder of DRC Engineering.
The start is back to its traditional location, University Quad, after coronavirus pandemic led university officials to postpone the celebration of 2020 and the transition to a drive entry ceremony at Fairplex in 2021.
