Fresno Police Chief Paco Balderrama said authorities had not yet located the man who had been hiding in the store on First Street and Nees Avenue since Thursday afternoon. The controversy erupted after a brief chase that erupted when Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies tried to stop the suspect at the River Park Mall near Nees and Blackstone.
The police chief said Fresno SWAT officers had entered the store with their K9s to search the building, but had not yet found it.
He said items had been moved around the store. Police also found traces and clothes.
Balderrama said they believe he may have had access to the roof.
The leader said that is why he does not want to clean the strip mall, in case the suspect had entered neighboring businesses.
“It’s a nuisance to our community and I apologize, but the first concern is public safety,” he said.
Authorities say the unknown suspect is wanted in connection with a Caruthers burglary.
Confirmed: The original burglary for which these suspects were wanted was on the same street where Sheriff Margaret Mims lives.
