Kings beat Warriors 126-123 to clinch 1-0 series

(KTXL) — It was a tumultuous scene at the Golden 1 Center Saturday night as the Sacramento Kings made their long-awaited return to the playoffs.

The Kings led the series 1-0 after defeating the Golden State Warriors in a thrilling 124-123 win in Game 1 of the first round series, dubbed the “Battle for NorCal.”

It was the Kings’ first playoff game in nearly 17 years. Game 2 takes place on Monday at 7:00 pm at the Golden 1 Center.

Kings All-Star point guard De’Aaron Fox finished with a game-high 38 points after scoring just nine points at halftime. Malik Monk scored his 32 points off the Kings’ bench while Domantas Sabonis recorded a double-double for his 12 points and 15 rebounds.

Trey Rise scored 16 points for the Kings, 4-6 from the 3-point line.

Warriors superstar guard Stephen Curry scored 30 points while three other Golden State Warriors scored in double figures. Klay Thompson scored 21 points, while Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole each scored 17.

The Kings enter the playoffs as the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference in their first postseason game since 2006. The NBA’s defending champions, the Warriors, are the sixth seed in the Western Conference.

This is the first time Northern California teams have met in the playoffs, and the first time both teams have advanced to the postseason at the same time.

In the regular season, Sacramento led the league in scoring with 120.7 points per game, while the Warriors ranked second with an average of 118.9 points.
