Brush Fire in Oceanside Forces Evacuations in Neighborhood Near Camp Pendleton

A moderate fire broke out Sunday, threatening structures in Oceanside and forcing residents in nearby neighborhoods to evacuate.

Residents on Rimhurst Court’s 300 block, Shadowtree’s 300 block and all over Wala Drive were asked to evacuate due to great care, according to Oceanside Fire Department.

As firefighters battled the blaze, dubbed Wala Fire, at 800 block of West Airport Road, police with the Oceanside Police Department went door-to-door alerting residents to Spring Brook Court and Silver Ridge Court to evacuate.

Employees set up an evacuation center at El Camino High School, 400 Rancho Del Oro Road.

Cal Fire San Diego, NC, Vista, Encinitas and Carlsbad were involved in the fire, which was first reported at 12:21 p.m.

Two tanker aircraft slowed down over the fire at 1:45 p.m. A cloud of black smoke covered the area and was visible for miles.

At 4 p.m., fire and police officials in Oceanside will provide information on the Wala fire.

In addition, Oceanside police wrote on Twitter that the media and the public should “keep all drones away from the area of ​​fire”.
