Bruce Willis Retires from Acting Due to Serious Health Condition

Bruce Willis will retire from acting.

The family of the 67-year-old actress shared unexpected and unfortunate news on Instagram on Wednesday and explained the reason for this in connection with the photo of Willis.

The message opens:

“To Bruce’s amazing supporters as a family, we wanted to tell you that our beloved Bruce has had some health problems and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which affects his cognitive abilities.”

“As a result, and with great consideration, Bruce is moving away from a career that has meant so much to him,” the caption added.

As you can see below, the statement was signed by daughter Rumer Willis, his mother, Demi Moore, Bruce’s wife Emma Heming and Rumer’s sisters Scout, Tallulah, Mabel and Evelyn.

These Instagram posts further said it was “a really challenging time” for all of them, and:

“We are so grateful for your continued love, compassion, and support.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, aphasia “is a condition that deprives you of the ability to communicate.

“It can affect your ability to speak, write and understand language, both oral and written.”

The medical team adds that the condition “usually occurs suddenly after a stroke or head injury.

“But it can also come from a slow-growing brain tumor or a disease that causes progressive, permanent damage (degenerative).”

So very, very sad.

“We’re moving away from this as a strong family unit and we wanted to bring his fan along because we know how much he means to you, as you mean to him,” Willis’s family message also says.

Rumer, the eldest child of Sixth Sense actress and ex-wife Moore, concluded by recounting the family’s new motto.

As Bruce always says, “Live it up” and together we’re going to do just that.

Willis has starred in such hit films as Die Hard, The Sixth Sense, Armageddon, Pulp Fiction, The Fifth Element, 12 Monkeys and Sin City.

Most recently, he starred in the 2018 hit action thriller Death Wish, directed by Eli Roth.

During his impressive career, Willis won the Golden Globe Award and two Emmy Awards.

He has several projects ready for release in 2022, all filmed before today’s announcement.

Following this medical and professional news, many celebrities expressed their surprise and grief on social media.

“We send a lot of love and healing to all of you!” wrote, for example, Katie Couric.

“Grace and courage! Love to all of you!” by Jamie Lee Curtis.

“We love Bruce so much. We send love to him and your family. Bruce has given us so much! What a wonderful career. Let him rest and recover,” added Debi Mazar.

Here’s a final word for Randall Emmett, who directed Willis in last year’s Midnight in the Switchgrass:

“Bruce and I have worked on over 20 films together. He is a great actor and a legendary action star, an amazing father and a close friend.

“I fully support Bruce and his family during this challenging time and admire him for his courage in fighting this incredibly difficult illness.

“Bruce will always be part of our family.”
