APPLE VALLEY (June 11, 2021) – Providence St Mary Medical Center and REACH Air Medical Services have partnered to promote high dessert care for patients in need of urgent air medical transport.
Starting Wednesday, REACH will deploy helicopters in Providence St. Mary to reduce patient transport time to hospitals that offer higher levels of care.
“This is what is best for our patients,” said Randall Castillo, CEO of Providence St. Mary. “We do everything we can to provide the best possible care here, but there are some services and situations that we are not ready to handle. In these scenarios, We need to guide patients to the right care environment in the fastest and safest way. This partnership makes exactly that possible. ”
Ronald Taggart, program director at REACH, said strategic placement of aircraft in Providence St. Mary could save up to 45 minutes depending on the weather and traffic patterns. REACH is based in Providence St. Mary, but will continue to serve hospitals in other regions.
“After all, when it comes to patient care, minutes are important, especially for time-critical injuries and illnesses such as strokes and heart attacks,” Taggart said. “Whenever there is an opportunity to increase the continuity of care, we do it because it gives better results and ultimately is best for the patients we serve.”
According to Taggart, the helicopter is located in the hospital, so REACH staff can better develop relationships with hospital departments and staff, leading to immediate care. Staff include highly trained and experienced pilots, flight nurses and paramedics.
“This is a very informative partnership that allows both organizations to share best practices and increase synergies,” says Taggart. “If we are already in the heliport and know that there are patients who may need transportation, we are already spinning up — we are already ahead of the game. Through this partnership, time is on our side. We believe that working together is best for patients. “
