BPD arrests suspect in hotel shooting | News

The Bakersfield Police Department arrested a suspect as part of an investigation into a shooting that occurred inside a room at the Ramada Inn on Real Road.

A woman was shot and taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening wound after a gun was fired in the room next to hers around 3:45 a.m. Sunday at the hotel in the 800 block of Real Road, according to a BPD news release.

BPD officers searched the next room and found methamphetamine, as well as evidence that a gun had been fired there.

As a result of the investigation, officers located and arrested 35-year-old Michael Samarripas of Bakersfield at approximately 5:03 a.m. the next day in a vehicle at Golden State Highway and Highway 99.

Samarripas was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm, aggravated assault with a firearm, shooting into a habitation, possession of methamphetamine and violation of a Post Release Community Supervision order.

According to the statement, the events and circumstances surrounding the discharge of the firearm are still under investigation.
