Box truck explosion prompts closure of south I-805 transition to south SR-163

The South Interstate 805 crossing in southern Route 163 closed Tuesday morning after a truck exploded, according to a California Highway Patrol incident log.

The incident started around 10:30 a.m. after someone reported that the truck was on fire on the way, according to the log. About 30 minutes later, the truck exploded.

Passers-by said the blast may have caused a fire near the intersection of Linda Vista Street and Stalmer Street, just west of the highway, according to the log. A crew of hazardous materials was called in to help clear the debris.

It is not clear how long the transition will close.

This is breaking news as more information becomes available.
