People with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, also known as psoriatic arthritis, are more likely to develop heart disease than the general public. In a new study published in Arthritis & Rheumatology which includes 1,000 adults with psoriatic artery disease, elevated blood levels of two markers of cardiovascular health – high levels of troponin I (cTnI) and N-terminal pro-brain-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) ) – are associated with a higher risk. face cardiovascular problems without independent risk factors such as high blood pressure and cholesterol.

The findings support further research evaluating the clinical potential of measuring cTnI and NT-proBNP levels to assist in assessing the heart health of patients with psoriatic arthritis.

“Our research provides new insights into the pathology of coronary heart disease in psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. However, at this time, it is not recommended to order cardiopulmonary resuscitation tests for the risk of patients with asymptomatic and psoriatic diseases, ”said Lihi Eder, MD, Ph.D. medicine at the Women’s College Hospital and University of Toronto.
