Bicyclist hit by ice cream truck, killed in San Marcos intersection

A 26-year-old man died Wednesday night when he was hit by an ice cream truck on his bike at a St. Mark’s intersection, sheriff officials said.

The truck collided with the bicycle at the intersection of Pico Avenue and West Mission Road shortly after 8 p.m. A witness told lawmakers that the driver of the truck turned west on West Mission with the green light and hit the cyclist, who was traveling southwest opposite the intersection. a red light.

The cyclist was not wearing a helmet. He died at the scene before being taken to hospital, officials said. His name was not released.

The 63-year-old driver of the ice cream truck was not injured.

A press release from the Sheriff’s Department stated that alcohol was believed to be a factor in the conflict, but did not specify whether the suspected alcohol use concerned the cyclist or the driver of the truck. The press release stated that no arrests were made and the investigation is ongoing.
