Suspect arrested in San Francisco Bay Area attack that killed 3, injured 3

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Police have arrested a suspect under investigation in connection with attacks in two San Francisco Bay Area cities that killed three and injured three.

Police spokesman Steve Aponte told reporters the attack began in a San Jose shopping center parking lot just after 3 p.m. suffered.

A second carjacking and stabbing attempt occurred at another shopping center in San Jose, Aponte said, leaving the victim with serious, life-threatening injuries.

Aponte said the vehicle stolen from the first shopping center in San Jose crashed into a pedestrian in the parking lot of the second shopping center, causing non-life-threatening injuries, but then intentionally killing two pedestrians. It is believed he was hit and died.

Police in the neighboring city of Milpitas responded to a stabbing incident in a shopping center parking lot around 4:30 p.m. Milpitas Police Lieutenant Tyler Jamison said in a statement that the victim died in hospital.

Jamison said a man was found nearby and was arrested. The man’s name has not been released.

“During the investigation, we learned that the San Jose Police Department was actively investigating two murders in the city. We think it could be,” Jamison said.

Aponte said San Jose police are working to see if Milpitas matches an assailant in the city.

“I am relieved that there is no ongoing threat to the public at this time,” Aponte said.
