MARTINEZ — One person was killed and another seriously injured in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 4 late Wednesday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The fifth fatality on the freeway of 2023 occurred around 10:40 p.m. on the westbound just before the Center Avenue exit, according to an agency statement released by Officer Adam Lane.

The person’s identity was not known early Thursday morning, pending notification from next of kin.
