BA flights disrupted and cancelled at Heathrow after IT failure

British Airways suffered on Wednesday from a technical problem in its IT systems at Heathrow Airport in London, which caused significant disruptions and flight cancellations.

Frustrated passengers turned to social media when some reports were stuck in planes sitting on the runway and lacking flight connections. One branded it as “another #failure from @BritishAirways”.

“They outdid themselves, we’re stuck waiting to get off the plane for two hours. I heard others were waiting for three… No news, no ETA,” Alex James Griffiths wrote on Twitter.

The IT failure is the latest in a series of glitches that threaten to erode BA’s recovery from the corona plague. The carrier has already suffered this year from delays resulting from other technical glitches and problems with the return of luggage at Heathrow.

She said the issue was resolved by late afternoon, but added in a later update that she had to cancel some of her flights on Wednesday evening. The airline said it was offering to reimburse injured passengers or rebook them for alternate flights.

Heathrow Airport advised passengers to check the status of their flight with BA before traveling to the airport “due to a number of cancellations as a result”.
