OCEAN BEACH (KUSI) – San Diego City workers quietly cut down several iconic 70-foot-tall palm trees in an Ocean Beach neighborhood Monday morning.
The workers gave little warning and angered the surrounding residents, who had also filed a lawsuit to prevent the city from cutting down the trees.
Officials said it was under the direction of the FAA and the San Diego Airport Authority and was necessary for the security of the airport, but the FAA has since said it was unaware.
Lawyer Marc Applbaum teamed up with KUSI’s Logan Byrnes in Good Morning San Diego to provide an update on the Ocean Beach trees cut down by workers in San Diego this week.
