SAN DIEGO (COUSSI) – The state legislature of California is due to meet again next week and state legislators are calling for action on gas prices.
California lawmakers disbanded Rocklin’s Kevin Kiley’s AB 1638 bill two weeks ago, a bill aimed at suspending the state gas tax of 51 cents per gallon.
It was only after hearing public comment from both sides of the argument that Assemblyman Alex Lee, D-San Jose, proposed amending Kiley’s bill, introducing a tax on unexpected vehicle fuel profits at California refineries.
Assemblyman Kevin Kiley, representing the 6th District, teamed up with KUSI’s Logan Byrnes at Goodnight San Diego to discuss efforts by California lawmakers to reduce gas prices – or make them worse.
Instead of scrapping the state gas tax, Governor Gavin Newsom waited a month to publish his proposal for a rebate, but much about that proposal is still unknown.
The first Californians to receive Governor Newsom’s gas relief are in July.
