Are Thanksgiving leftovers better than the original meal? From chefs to tech millionaires, prominent Bay Area residents weigh in

San Francisco-More than two-thirds of Americans believe that Thanksgiving leftovers are even better than their original meals, and we find that many of the Bay Area’s prominent residents agree.

  • According to 66% of the 2,000 US residents surveyed by research group OnePoll in mid-November, the next day’s Thanksgiving sandwiches taste better than freshly prepared dinners.

    From chefs to tech billionaires to realtors, Bay Area residents also praised the leftovers.

    Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple, likes pumpkin pies and isn’t the only one. Forty-five percent of those surveyed cited the best pumpkin pie for leftovers.

    San Francisco chef Adriano Paganini, who cooked for Queen Elizabeth and Luciano Pavarotti, loves to eat grilled panini sandwiches with stuffing and fried eggs the next morning.

    Paganini is the driving force behind San Francisco restaurants such as Berga, Beretta and De La Rosa.

    Bay Area music spokeswoman Terri Hinte likes to make Turkish Tetrazzini from leftovers.

    Continuing the turkey theme, “I love turkey sandwiches,” said Nancy Duff, a longtime real estate agent and former zoning commissioner in Berkeley.

    Mayor Richmond Tom Bat is another turkey sandwich enthusiast who prefers to eat with cranberries.

    62% of the people surveyed by OnePoll said that turkeys make the best leftovers, but not everyone has a sandwich.

    “I like to start over from the beginning, turkey, stuffing, cranberries-heat in an oven toaster the next day,” Duff added.

    Sixty-three percent of the people surveyed by OnePoll said they made old-fashioned “leftover” dishes from food they didn’t finish eating at Thanksgiving.
