Applications for Sacramento’s Racial Equity Council close Monday evening

Monday is the deadline for residents to apply to the newly formed Racial Equality Council, which will work to end racial inequality in Sacramento. The application closes at 5 p.m. Monday. If elected, board members will spend an average of five to 10 hours a month on the board and will be reimbursed for their time. The goal is to find a group of different leaders who are already in neighborhoods working to end racism and discrimination that harm colored communities. Members of the Racial Equality Committee will guide the city to change the way it has achieved racial equality. They will also be the watchdog and will hold city officials accountable to make sure government decisions and procedures serve everyone.
