BARSTOW, California (VVNG.com) – Named a 26-year-old man from Apple Valley Eric Anthony Lemus was arrested in Barstow after leading police in a high-speed chase in a reported stolen vehicle, officials said.
On Monday, March 7, 2022, at 3:52 p.m., Barstow Police Department officers were directed to the High Point Parkway and Lenwood Road area regarding a warning from the Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR).
A check of records revealed that Eric Lemus was listed as the suspect who stole the vehicle. Officials were also wanted for two active arrest warrants for PC 211 – Robbery and PC 245 (a) (4) – Attack with grievous bodily harm.
Police located the stolen vehicle on the 2800 block of Lenwood Road and tried to stop the traffic due to the crime. Lemus did not give in to the officers and a chase was launched.
“The driver fled at high speed (100+ MPH), failing to stop at numerous traffic lights and occasionally crashed into traffic from the opposite direction. The chase was interrupted when the driver could not cross the left turn from Barstow Road to Windy Pass and collided with the curb, disabling the vehicle, “the statement said.
The suspect tried to escape on foot, but the police quickly arrested him.
Lemus was booked at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Detention Center for VC 2800.2 (a) – Avoiding Crime, VC 2800.4 – Entering Upcoming Traffic While Avoiding a Peace Officer, VC 10851 (a) – Take Vehicle Without Conent Owner 496D (a) ) – Possession of a stolen vehicle as well as its unpaid criminal warrants.
