Lake Arrowhead, California (VVNG.com) — Authorities are investigating after an early morning fire destroyed seven boats on Lake Arrowhead and damaged the other five.
It occurred on Friday, July 16, 2021 at about 4:06 am on a boat dock near 800 blocks on Highway 173.
A crew member from the San Bernardino County Fire Department responded and discovered multiple boats and additional boats at the fire-threatening dock NSM4.
Firefighters staffed nearby Boat 92 to launch a safe and immediate fire attack off the fireboat platform. The fire was extinguished in about 20 minutes using fireboat pumps, hose compliments, and unlimited water supplies.
Battalion Chiel Mike McClintock said: Firefighters worked to extinguish and enclose floating boats before causing additional damage. ”
A total of 7 boats were destroyed and 5 boats were damaged. The dock was also severely damaged. The cause and cause of the fire is being investigated by a fire investigator in San Bernardino County.
According to McClintock, the crew stayed on site for hours overhaul, rescue and investigation. The Arrowhead Lake Association (ALA) has been notified of the response as it manages the lake operations and boat docks.
Hazmat staff in San Bernardino County also responded for potential liquids and other hazardous materials that could affect the lake. Dangerous goods personnel will continue to support ALA in their cleanup efforts.
Fires on boats and docks pose a danger to firefighters and make fireboats an important resource for extinguishing fires, as both can sink. Firefighters are specially trained in fire extinguishing activities on board, operating fireboats, and cross-staffing boats from nearby Station 92.
