Amerie’s ‘1 Thing’ Resurfaces Debate Over Beyonce, J Lo Comparisons

Every now and then, Ameriethe band’s hit single ‘1 Thing’ appears online – and like clockwork, a heated conversation ignites … that inevitably Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez convoy.
Here’s the deal … the 2005 song – which appeared on Amerie’s second album “Touch” – appears on Twitter every few months, as it does nowand many claimed that the success of his mainstream was interrupted … and not just because the industry had allegedly made him dirty.
The reason people feel so … his fans say that this unique sound in the song, often referred to as “go-go” and which was quite popular at the time, is one that stars like Bey and J Lo, Among R&B female singers.
Their songs, like “Crazy In Love” and “Get Right,” respectively, use similar break beats and drum patterns – some have even gone so far as to claim that B and J (Lo) actually captured Amerie’s entire aesthetics. and thus he was robbed of his thunder.
Beyoncé grabbed the production of its producer, Rich Harrison, and the American writing style became the formula that made Beyoncé the # 1 https://t.co/1kZsai4PKW

Of course, a proper timeline of events is needed here to put things in context … like an explanation of who the hell Rich Harrison is because he is the center of all this – and the main reason for making comparisons.
Harrison was a producer in the 2000s, and he worked extensively with Columbia Records – which had all of these women on his list in the early to mid-2000s. The fact is, he made “go-go” punches for almost all of them, and also others in the game … including Toni Braxton, Kelly Rowland and even Mary J. Blige. Everyone dipped their toes in the RH pool here.
As for who did what first – between Bey, J and Amerie, that is, Beyonce was actually the first of three to tread Harrison’s sound on the song “CIL” (’04), although KR could claim it was first ’02 in “Can’t Nobody” – and maybe others used it before. Meanwhile, Amerie and J Lo released their songs “1 Thing” and “Get Right” at about the same time in 2005 … with JL in January.
And a spoiler alarm … ALL of these songs are produced by Harrison, so of course they sound the same!
So it settles the matter, or so it seems. However, there is another element here that also gets attention because it is related to Amerie and J Lo, especially … namely, old stories / rumors that Jen was claimed to take precedence over record label comrades / contemporaries.
This has been a recurring theme in J Lon’s music career – even Fat Joe touched it not too long ago – but the alleged story goes on … “1 Thing” was presumably bought for J Lo BTS, and the directors of the Columbia record companies really wanted it to go to him instead of the Americas.
After learning this, they say Amerie went ahead and spilled “1 Thing” radio stations alone, and because it became so popular … Columbia had to retreat and let it be.
Anyway … both songs turned out to be hits – in fact, many of Harrison’s songs did – and one question many people ask for this reason is … why can’t we just appreciate everyone’s accomplishments and let the past live in the past ??? Indeed.
