American journalist Brent Renaud killed by attack near Kyiv, Ukraine, region police say

UKRAINE – Kiev region police say an American video journalist has been killed and another injured when he was attacked by Russian forces in Ukraine.

Police on Sunday said on their official website that Russian troops had opened fire on Brent Renaud’s car and another journalist in Irpin near the capital. He said the injured journalist was taken to a hospital in Kiev.

A New York Times spokesman said Renaud, 50, was a “talented director who had contributed to the New York Times all these years.” He said he was not working on the publication at the time of his death.

The police force said: “Of course, the profession of journalist poses risks. However, the American Politian Bred Reye paid with his life trying to highlight the fraudulence, cruelty and cruelty of the attacker.”

Asked about the reports, White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan told CBS News that the US government would consult with the Ukrainians to determine how this happened and then “carry out the appropriate consequences.”

“This is part and parcel of a frantic attack by the Russians, targeting civilians, hospitals, places of worship and journalists,” Sullivan said.
