Amazon announces solar renewable energy project near Baldy Mesa – VVNG.com

BALDY MESA, California (VVNG.com) – This week, Amazon announced 37 new renewable energy projects around the world, including one new project in Victor Valley that is the third in the state of California.

The new solar project, located near Baldy Mesa, will produce 150 MW of renewable energy paired with a 75 MW storage battery. This is in addition to 40 on-site solar projects on Amazon and the Whole Foods website.

The announcement marks significant progress on Amazon’s path to supplying 100% of its operations with renewable energy by 2025 – five years ahead of the original 2030 target.

An additional 3.5 GW of clean energy capacity from these new projects expands Amazon’s leading position as the world’s largest corporate buyer of renewable energy and enhances its efforts to meet The Climate Pledge, a commitment to 2040 years before the Paris Agreement.

“Our commitment to protecting the planet and limiting Amazon’s impact on the environment has led us to become the world’s largest corporate renewable energy buyer in both 2020 and 2021. Given our business growth and our mission to run 100% of Amazon’s renewable energy operations, we are not slowing down our investment in renewable energy, ”said Andy Jassy, CEO of Amazon. “We now have 310 wind and solar projects in 19 countries and are working hard to reach our goal of supplying 100% of our business with renewable energy by 2025 – five years ahead of our original 2030 target.”

The 37 new projects announced today are located in the US, Spain, France, Australia, Canada, India, Japan and the United Arab Emirates. They differ in type and size of project, with three new wind farms, 26 new solar farms and eight new rooftop solar installations in buildings around the world. As a result of these projects, Amazon now has a total of 310 renewable energy projects, including 134 wind farms and solar farms and 176 rooftop solar projects.

Amazon also continues to invest in renewable energy projects paired with energy storage. Energy storage systems allow Amazon to store clean energy produced in its solar projects and to use it when solar energy is not available, for example in the evening or during periods of high demand. This strengthens the climate impact of Amazon’s clean energy portfolio by enabling carbon-free electricity for multiple parts of the day. New projects include a 300-megawatt (MW) solar project paired with 150 MW of battery storage in Arizona and a 150-MW solar project paired with 75 MW of battery storage in California. Combined, the two projects double Amazon’s total announced solar system paired with 220 MW to 445 MW of energy storage.
