All lanes of Interstate 5 on La Costa Avenue were closed after a deadly highway collision early Wednesday involving a suspected drunk driver, authorities said.
The fatal crash was reported at 2:50 a.m., according to a California Highway Patrol incident log.
At least one person has been killed and a second is in critical condition, said CHP officer Mark Latulippe. He said a driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
A traffic warning was issued. Caltrans tweeted that the freeway was closed, with all cars heading north bypassing and returning to La Costa Avenue ramps.
