Alex Cobb, Shohei lead Angels in victory over Royals – Daily News

Alex Cobb gave the angels more reason to be encouraged on Monday night.

Cobb hit 10 for the first time in almost seven years, and Shohei Ohtani made two double insurance runs at 119 mph, helping the Angels beat the Kansas City Royals 10-3.

Cobb had all the strikeouts and did not allow him to go through 5 innings, reaching double digits for the first time since 2014. He then retired 12 of the 14 batters on 65 pitches and frailed the Royals with a splitter.

This outing followed a quality start at Cobb’s Angels debut. They won both his starts.

However, his performance was slightly impaired as the Royals batter reached to break the shutout three times in a row in six. Cobb was pulled in just one run on the board, but when Jorge Soler played Steve Siseek, he was charged two more runs.

He cut the reed 4-3, but Otani fired a bullet from the base of the right field fence and regained the cushion at the top of the top of the 7th inning.

It was the most hit ball in the majors so far in the young season.

Otani also made a group double for the 9th time and drove in another run. Otani leads the Angels with 11 RBIs this season, averaging .333 and OPS 1.109.

Mike Trout continued his fourth two-run home run of the season to give the Angels a comfortable lead. The Angels hit at least one home run in all 10 games this season.

But that night wasn’t without negatives.

Catcher Max Stassi was removed 7 times due to inflammation of the left thumb. There was no immediate word as to whether Stassi was expected to be absent at any time.

I’ll explain this story in more detail.
