Alameda County DA releases woman convicted in 2003 Oakland murders

OAKLAND — Twenty years after a crime that sent her to prison for life, an East Bay woman was released from incarceration on a court petition with the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office, court records show.

Eva McDonald, 53, was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for the murder of Oaklander Stacey Alexander in 2003. In 2003, Alexander was shot dead by McDonald’s girlfriend when he cornered him. But on June 14, the prosecution successfully handed down her sentence. Release her from her prison using the penal code provisions that allow the District Attorney’s sentence to be reduced or reduced after her conviction.

The complaint, filed by Assistant District Attorney Erin Roback, said McDonald had received no “serious reprimand” during her 20 years in prison and “had taken advantage of countless opportunities to participate in rehabilitation programs.” .

“Before her first parole hearing was scheduled earlier this year, a psychologist evaluated her and determined that her risk of reoffending was low if released,” Roback wrote, later adding. And the public is asking the courts to lash out at allowing Ms. McDonald to be released because she had a chance to evaluate her part at her parole hearing in April. ”

In 2003, McDonald and his partner, Richard Juniel, were arrested and charged with the murder of Alexander during an ongoing feud between him and McDonald. Authorities said days before the killing, McDonald threatened Alexander with a bat during an altercation.

In March 2003, McDonald drove 41-year-old Juniel around Oakland and opened fire with an assault pistol upon spotting Alexander. Alexander, who had injuries to his arm and back, tried to flee, but McDonald backed up and Juniel fired a third shot, hitting him in the head, prosecutors said.

During the 2004 trial, according to court records, Juniel testified in defense of McDonald’s allegations that Alexander had threatened her and had previously abused her son.

Prison records show Juniel was sentenced to 50 years to life in prison and will be eligible for parole in 2027. He is currently incarcerated at the California State Penitentiary in Los Angeles County.
