Afternoon Shooting Kills One Person In SF’s McLaren Park

One person was found with a gunshot wound at McLaren Park in San Francisco Monday afternoon, and the victim later died from their injuries.

The incident was reported at 12:09 p.m. Monday and SFPD officers responded in the Mansell Street and John F. Shelly Drive area of ​​McLaren Park. According to a press release from the SFPD, the police were referred to the victim by passers-by and immediately “the officers began to render assistance and to call for medical attention”.

SFFD paramedics arrived at the scene, but all life-saving efforts by police officers and paramedics failed and the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The victim’s identity, gender, and any identifying details have not yet been released pending notification of the family.

This daylight murder was SF’s 27th murder this year to date. That homicide rate is almost exactly the same as 2021, when the city recorded 27 homicides on July 24.

The fatal shooting at McLaren Park happened about eight hours later a violent shootout involving an unknown number of shooters about 3 miles away in the Potrero Hill area, one block from SF General. In that early morning shooting, two victims with gunshot wounds later took themselves to the hospital for treatment.
