Additional deputies on patrol until July 4 in Hesperia and Jabuka Valley – VVNG.com

HESPERIA, CA (VVNG.com) – This July 4th holiday, you can expect to see additional deputies patrolling Hesperia and Apple Valley.

Deputies will look for drivers suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

According to AAA Southern California, more than five million Californians will be traveling during the Fourth of July holiday. Since most travel by car, allow extra time to get to your destination.

In 2020, nearly 500 people died in crashes across the country during the 4th of July weekend. Of those fatal crashes, 41% involved alcohol.

“If you plan to drink this weekend, plan to drive home safely and sober. Think about your loved ones, friends and family before you think about driving after having a few drinks,” the station said in a statement.

While some festivities may involve alcohol, driving under the influence also includes impairment due to prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs, and marijuana. Do your research and learn about how certain medications may affect your ability to drive.

If you’re hosting friends and family for a barbecue and fireworks display, offer soft drinks to designated sober drivers and keep track of who’s drinking. If you see people leaving who have been drinking, offer to stay the night or arrange for a sober ride home.

If you see someone who appears impaired or driving recklessly, call 9-1-1.
