VICTORVILLE, California (VVNG.com) – The woman was flown to a burn center after a nighttime explosion at a house in Victorville.

It happened around 2:54 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at block 14900 of Adalana Ct.

Brenda Ogaz lives across the street and was awake when she heard a small explosion followed by another. “I was looking out the window and the whole house was swallowed up and something that looked like fireworks was coming out. We all rushed to try to help, but there was nothing we could do, ”she said.

A woman with burns was rescued from the house and transferred by helicopter to the trauma center. No news about her condition was available. A small dog that was also injured in the fire was picked up by an animal control officer (ACO) around 7 p.m. The ACO also removed the dead cat from the pile of debris.

The force of the explosion caused great damage to both neighboring houses, as well as to several others in the kuldesak. A wooden front door was taken to the house across the street, and another tenant said he was pushed out of bed.

The explosion caused a shock wave that was felt even as far as Yucca Loma Road in the city of Apple Valley. Residents said the windows rattled and it was like an earthquake.

Firefighters on the spot confirmed that at least two houses will be marked in red and are considered habitable due to damage.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated. This is an evolving story and additional information will be updated as they become available.

UPDATE 13:15 – Southwest Gas issued the following statement regarding the incident at Adalane Ct. Victorville.

Southwest Gas reacted this morning to an incident near Adalane Court and Llanada Avenue in Victorville. Our hearts are with the person who was injured in this incident and we thank those who were the first to respond to their quick response. Safety is our top priority, and our teams have turned off gas in affected apartment buildings and worked with first responders to ensure the area is safe and secure. While the cause of this incident is still being investigated, Southwest Gas has inspected the incident site and surrounding area in detail due to a gas leak. No leak was found. All Southwest Gas infrastructure that serves the community works smoothly. As part of Southwest Gas ’rigorous safety practices, Southwest Gas contractor conducted periodic routine leak inspections in the area last month. No leaks were found even then. Southwest Gas will continue to work closely with officials at the scene to provide all necessary assistance.
