Our communities should be so discriminatory about the donations we accept that we take seriously the long-standing equity issues we seek to repair.

Corporations have become very adept at making large donations while continuing their discriminatory policies and practices and / or funding and supporting politicians and political movements that work against the interests of the communities they claim to support.

However, when these beliefs affect voting rights, reproductive rights, the choice of who to choose to love, then it is a problem. And when corporations like AT&T, Walmart, Johnson and Johnson, among others, donate millions of dollars to Black and other minority causes, they are at the same time supporting the work of ALEC, whose legislation is being passed state after state denying its own things from these communities. they are fighting, it is a problem.

If the allegations are proven to be true, it is just one more example of how Wells Fargo will do everything possible to maintain the illusion of inclusion and diversity and promote itself as a pillar of commitment to equity when its facts prove otherwise.

These corporations are predatory and their behavior becomes even more grotesque when you consider the millions, if not billions, of missed opportunities that these communities continue to suffer because they entrust their meager profits to institutions or do business with corporations that abuse their loyalty. and confidence without further consideration or reflection. .

We know what we know about his deception and what it continues to cost us in terms of intergenerational wealth. I wonder what corporations like Wells Fargo continue to steal that we don’t know about?

Would we never celebrate a heroin dealer who becomes addicted to our community and then makes donations to local rehab facilities while silently supporting legislation to arrest and imprison drug users (or us)? And yet, we tolerate and even hold actions that are equally harmful to corporations.

We should start thinking of your money as dirty money and say no to your donations. We must not allow their public souls to calm down at the expense of ours. If we truly believe we are free, if we are firm in that we are not for sale, we should stop receiving your donations and stop sponsoring your business. We have options. Let us choose the right course of action. There is power in our dollars.
