Spare Aviation Alert Called Bay Area Friday

Bay Area Aviation District officials issued a spare-the-air alert on Thursday, banning residents from burning firewood and urging vulnerable people to take precautions.

Data from meteorologists and other sources prompted officials from the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to issue an alert on Friday — unhealthy for some sensitive populations in North Bay County and the Santa Clara Valley. Moderate air quality conditions to the considered range are expected to be marginal.

The wildfire season in Northern California has recently come to an end, but the cool, mild weather conditions are allowing fine particles to build up on the ground, putting people suffering from ailments such as emphysema, asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at risk. I’m here.

Those at risk should filter the air and limit outdoor activity, or consider leaving the area temporarily.

This warning means that it is illegal to burn wood, firewood, pellets, or solid fuels in fireplaces, woodstoves, outdoor firepits, and other wood-burning devices.

One way to reduce your exposure to particles is to limit your movement, ride a bicycle, or arrange to carpool. Another is to use public transportation. Public transport may be operating on a lighter or different schedule due to holidays.

Residents can track air quality conditions near them at https://www.baaqmd.gov/highs or see more advisories and warnings at https://www.sparetheair.gov.
