APPLE VALLEY, California (VVNG.com) – The child was taken from a house in Apple Valley and placed in Child Family Services (CFS) after police discovered he was sleeping in a closet and sharing a home with over 50 cats and various other animals, officials said.

On Saturday, May 21, 2022, at about 6:10 p.m., Apple Valley Police Department deputies responded to the 13,000 block of Cuyamaca Road in the Apple Valley City for reporting a riot.

Upon arrival, deputies found out about the suspect, a 38-year-old Jeddidiah Schulza resident of Apple Valley, refused to return three cats that belonged to the reporting party.

While talking to Schulz, Deputy Watson could see a child in the living room with several cats running around and noticed the extremely strong smell of cat urine coming from the apartment.

“After entering the residence, over 50 cats, several exotic birds, lizards and dogs were found. The whole house was covered with splinters that the cats used as a litter box. It was also revealed that the child slept in the closet, and his bedding was covered with cat urine, “the sheriff said in a statement.

Officials said the child was placed in the care of the Children’s Service, and Apple Valley’s animal control officers responded to the animal’s care.

Schulz was arrested and convicted at the High Desert Detention Center for cruelty to children and was held in lieu of $ 100,000 bail.
