8-year-old champion chess player from Iowa prepares for world tournament

A child prodigy from Iowa makes a nationwide name in the game of chess. Her name is Irene Fei and she is ranked as the best chess player for her age group at USH. She hopes to be the best in the world and she has not played for so long. “Almost two years, about a year and a half,” said Irene Fei. One of her teachers approached Irene’s parents about her chess skills. She now devotes two hours a day to training and her parents support her passion. “We are very proud of her. And we can see how hard she works every day,” said Yan Jiao’s mother. “This is actually something that really surprises us because it is not easy,” added Zhej Fei’s father. She has won many titles from tournaments that correspond to medals and trophies as big as this one. “I like the tactics and my favorite part is the knight. My strategy is to take advantage sometimes to grab more space,” Irene Fei added. Irene is currently training for the Florida International Chess Tournament this June. She hopes to become the best chess player in the world. Watch the video above for the full story.
