3rd man arrested on gun charge, police say

Sacramento police have arrested a third man as part of an investigation into Sunday’s shooting that killed six people and injured 12 others, but police said the suspect was not charged with any crimes directly related to the shooting. Daviyonne Dawson, 31, was arrested late Monday on charges of possessing a firearm. According to police, Dawson was seen holding a gun “immediately after” the shooting in the city center. Police said they did not believe the weapon they found was used in the mass attack. So far, two other people have been arrested in connection with the crime investigation. The second suspect was identified as 27-year-old Smiley Martin, who was taken into custody on Tuesday on charges including possession of a firearm by a banned person and possession of a machine gun. He had posted a video of himself with a gun on Facebook earlier in the day, a law enforcement official told the Associated Press. Martin is the brother of the first suspect arrested, 26-year-old Dandrae Martin, police said. Smiley Martin was seriously injured in the shooting and is currently in a nearby hospital for treatment. He will be held in Sacramento County Jail as soon as he is released from hospital.
