2022 NHL Free Agency: Sharks sign Mitchell Russell to entry-level contract

God San Jose Sharks North Bay Regiment forward Mitchell Russell signed an entry contract, the club announced earlier today. The terms of the contract were not disclosed according to the club’s policy.

“Mitchell is a character player and leader on the ice with a good production that helps his team win,” said Sharks interim general manager Joe Will On release. “He has a strong pedigree as a skater selected in the first round of the OHL draft.”

After the 2021 OHL season was canceled due to the COVID-19 epidemic, Russell returned for the 2021-22 season to finish third in the regular season scoring in the battalion, with 88 points (41 goals, 47 assists) in 64 games. Russell also finished third on the team in scoring during his second OHL season (2019-20), with 21 goals and 21 assists in 51 games. He began his youth career with an attacking Owen Sound, with whom he played 92 games over two seasons.

Russell is not the only battalion player in the Sharks organization, as teammate and leading scorer Brandon Ko was drafted by the team in the fourth round of the NHL 2020 draft. The battalion will begin its Eastern Conference Finals series tomorrow night against the Hamilton Bulldogs. Russell has so far scored 22 points (11 goals, 11 assists) in nine games, and has scored at least two points in every single game.

The 21-year-old forward is a native of Bari, Ontario, and shoots with his right hand. It stands exactly 6 feet high and weighs 194 pounds.
