2022 NHL Draft: San Jose Sharks pick Filip Bystedt media availability

Newest member on San Jose Sharks Talked to members of the media last night after being elected 27th in the first round of 2022 Draft NHL.

Here’s what forward Philip Beaststadt had to say on his first appearance in a yellow sweater:

If he was surprised to reach 27th place: I was expecting somewhere there, but quite shocked by the sharks, I did not talk to them the most from the groups. I was perhaps, as it were, late first, early second, yes.

About what he will bring to the sharks: I’m going to bring the team the level of competition and skill and be reliable on all the ice, be able to play defensively and also score points and be good offensively.

On how helpful his experience in the SHL last season was: It was a fun experience. Bigger guys, stronger guys, so you have to adapt to this game more.

About participating in a development camp next week: Yes, [the Sharks] Will help me fly there or something.

About a professional game in the United States next year: I think I was open to that. Not before the draft, but pretty much now I have my focus on the SHL, and evolving there. But this is something I would consider.

On the reaction of his teammates to the recruitment team: I think they’m pretty excited. We’ve been friends for a long time, me and [2022 draft prospect Mattias Havelid]. Everything [time] When we were growing up, the same team. I think they’m pretty excited, and I’m pretty excited to see tomorrow too when they go.

About whether he feels ‘happy you are lucky’ is a suitable description for himself: I would say so. I always like to have fun.

Editor’s note: As usual, this is edited lightly for clarity, but as shown in the video above, the sound quality is not perfect on zoom and English is not Bystedt’s first language. If there were any errors in the transcript, it was due to these factors and not an attempt to change any meaning to what Bystedt said.
