2022 California Rodeo Salinas expecting ‘record crowds’

Volunteers and maintenance workers are working hard to put up banners and prepare the stages for the 2022 California Rodeo.

Ticket sales are also on the rise for the event, which will be held July 21-24.

With last-minute approval and some pandemic-related modifications, the 2021 Rodeo has a lower turnout. Rodeo officials say they expect much higher turnout this year, which means event attendees can expect to see more.

“We’ve heard of record crowds at almost every roundup,” said marketing manager Mandy Linquist. “He’s a little frantic here just trying to get the last minute details and it’s all done. It’s a big year; we’re very excited.”

In addition to the classic horse parade and bullfighting, people can expect more food vendors; more rides and carnival games for kids; the return of rodeo clown animator CrAsh Cooper; Roman stunt and riding riders, where artists ride on two horses, a performance, says Linquist, not long ago.

The Rodeo will also feature wagon races, which Linquist says will not appear at next year’s event.

Families and individuals will also have opportunities to take pictures with the cowboy hat mascot and the opportunity to meet their favorite artists, bullfighters and contest winner Ms. California Rodeo during an autograph party after each performance.

Linquist says the Rodeo is not just fun and entertainment, but an opportunity to give back to the community.

The Rodeo’s Golden Circle of Champions program offers children in cancer remission to the Las Vegas Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.

“The girl we sent to the nationals last year, Maddie Owens, she and her family will be down on Saturday that weekend, so we’ll be recognizing her,” Linquist said.

Linquist also hopes Rodeo officials can involve more nonprofits in the area.

“Last year, we were able to return $ 375,000 despite having very limited events, but we still gave scholarships; we were able to get people to go out to work,” he said. “We usually give more than $ 530,000, so we expect that number to increase again.”
