2 more bodies found within California fire zone

YREKA, Calif. (AP) – Two more bodies have been found in the raging flames of a massive Northern California wildfire, raising the death toll in the state’s deadliest state of the year to four, officials said. and officials on Tuesday.

Search crews found more bodies Monday in detached houses on State Road 96, the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

“This brings the recorded death toll to 4,” the sheriff said. “Now there is no one who is unknown.” Other details were not immediately available.

Two bodies were found together Sunday in a burned-out car in the driveway of a home near the small community of Klamath River.

More than 100 homes, sheds and other structures have been destroyed in the McKinney fire since it broke out last Friday.

The fire near the state line with Oregon has burned about 88 square miles (228 square km) and is the largest of the wildfires burning in the Klamath National Forest.
