A two-person parachute plane crashed near the runway at Oceanside Municipal Airport early Thursday afternoon, an Oceanside police spokesman said.
The hard landing took place in the area of SR-76 and Foussat Road shortly after 12:45 pm, the police department said in a tweet. Police and firefighters responded.
Two people aboard the ship were taken to hospitals, police said on Twitter, but did not say how serious their injuries were.
The crash happened in a field a little closer to the east end of the airport, said spokeswoman Jennifer Atenza. The plane was approaching the airport from the east.
Atenza said no roads were closed, but police are urging people to avoid the area, citing concerns about possible fuel leaks.
The airport is located just north of Route 76 and west of El Camino Real.
Federal Aviation Administration records show that the plane is a turbocharged Cessna wing.
