2 El Monte police officers killed in motel shooting are identified – Times-Herald

Two officers from El Monte they were shot dead while being reported stabbed at a motel on Tuesday night city ​​and county authorities identified Cpl. Officer Michael Domingo Paredes and Joseph Anthony Santana.

The two men “grew up in the city of El Monte and had a strong bond with the community they served,” city officials said in a note posted on Instagram with photos of the two men.

Both were living in Upland, court officials said Wednesday afternoon.

Paredes, 42, has served in the department as a full-time officer since July 2000, and did a number of specialized jobs before reaching the corporation level, officials said. He began his law enforcement career as a cadet in the EMPD.

Paredes leaves behind his wife, daughter and son.

Santana, 31, came to the department after working as a deputy sheriff in the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department for three years, officials said. He was hired by the department in 2021. He previously worked with the council as a part-time public works employee before pursuing a law enforcement career.

“Corporal Paredes and Officer Santana paid the final sacrifice while they were in a noble profession, serving the community they loved,” officials said.

They had officers he replied to the Siesta Inn on Garvey Avenue, but were immediately shot, authorities said. They were both taken to LAC + USC Medical Center, where they died.

At least one other officer was shot dead outside the hotel, authorities said. He died at the scene and was not yet identified on Wednesday evening.
