15-year-old boy found shot to death in Lemon Grove

A 15-year-old boy was found shot to death early Saturday morning on a sidewalk in Lemon Grove, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies responded to the southwest corner of Palm Street and Mulder Street shortly before 2 a.m. following reports of a man being shot in the upper body, said Lt. Chris Steffen.

Deputies and firefighters found the boy dead with obvious signs of injury on his upper body, the lieutenant said. A man was seen running from where the victim was found.

The sheriff’s Homicide Unit responded and took responsibility for the investigation.

The identity of the victim is known and the family has been notified, Steffen said. The boy’s name was not released. The circumstances and motives of the shooting are still under investigation.
