14-year-old Fresno girl lands big role on new Disney Channel show

FRESNO, California (KFSN) – 14-year-old Zelia Ankrum from Fresno has landed a starring role in Disney Channel’s new show, “Ultra Violet and Black Scorpion.”

“I play Maya Miller Martinez,” he said. “She’s kind of her jerky best friend. She’s a gamer, she’s a coder.”

Zelia spent seven months in New Orleans filming 16 episodes of the series, but could not share details about the project with her friends at Bullard High.

Zelia’s mother teaches theater at Edison High. Her three children share this passion.

The family had a watch party for the show’s premiere.

“It was so nice because, as Zelly says, the absence of the family for her seven months was very isolating,” says Bianca Ankrum.

Zelia took the role in March 2020, but the pandemic caused a long delay.

The cast looks bigger now, but she likes the end result.

“It was really surreal,” he said. “I’m not used to such things. I usually do community theater.”

The first taste of Ankrum’s great time came after endless auditions for other works.

“Sometimes, you are rejected and that is over and over again,” Bianca said. “I said.” Does that stop you? “He says,” No. “I’m excited about the next time I audition.”

“There were a lot of different people with different acting styles, so it was great to see what they were shooting for,” Zeila said.

“Ultra Violet and Black Scorpion” airs Friday night at 9pm on the Disney Channel.

Disney is the parent company of ABC30.
