Ten sea turtles rescued from last year’s cold water were brought back into the deep sea. The New England Aquarium says dolphins were released in Cape Cod last week. Ten turtles were found off the coast of New England in November and December after almost extinction in cold weather. The animals released include five sea urchins, three sea turtles and two Kemp’s Ridley ants, a very dangerous species. Some of the turtles were equipped with tracking devices to allow researchers to analyze their behavior to help in further conservation efforts.After their rescue, the turtle was treated at New England Aquarium’s sea turtle hospital in Quincy, Mass. In addition to hypothermia, some turtles suffer from pneumonia and even broken bones. Sea turtles get colder and colder as water tends to cool down faster and they cannot reach warm water. Cold alone can kill them, and it can lead to serious illness.
