1 killed in Placer County head-on crash; 3 children injured

One person was killed and four others, including children, were injured after a head-on collision Tuesday afternoon on Foresthill Road in Placer County, officials said. Nearby roads are closed while police are at the scene. The California Highway Patrol said a Toyota Corolla was traveling westbound on Foresthill Road when it veered into the opposite lane at a slow speed and collided head-on with an Acura MDX, a type of SUV, around 3 p.m. west of Drivers Flat Road. A man driving the Toyota died at the scene, the CHP said. There was no one else inside that vehicle. Inside the Acura was a woman and three children between the ages of 10 and 15. The children were taken to UC Davis Medical Center and the woman was taken to Sutter Roseville Medical Center. The CHP said all the people inside the SUV are expected to survive. It is unclear why the driver of the Toyota went into the opposite lanes.

The California Highway Patrol Auburn Division said a Toyota Corolla was traveling westbound on Foresthill Road when it went into reverse and collided head-on with an Acura MDX, an SUV, around 3 p.m. west of Drivers Flat Road.

A man driving the Toyota died at the scene, the CHP said. There was no one else inside that vehicle. In the Acura, there was a woman and three children between the ages of 10 and 15. The children were taken to UC Davis Medical Center and the woman was taken to Sutter Roseville Medical Center.

The CHP said all people inside the SUV are expected to survive.

It is not clear why the driver of the Toyota went into the opposite lane.

Meanwhile, both directions of Foresthill Road are expected to be closed for at least three hours while officers investigate.
