Juan Carlos Vasquez-Orozco found guilty in Brian Ishmael’s death

The man who shot and killed an El Dorado County lawmaker in 2019 was found guilty of second-degree murder in court on Friday. MP Brian Ishmael was 37 when he was killed on duty on October 23, 2019, while responding to reports of a robbery at an illegal marijuana growing business in the Somerset area. Juan Carlos Vasquez-Orozco, 22, was found guilty of killing Ismail and also of firing on three other lawmakers who were responding to the scene with the lawmaker. Homeowner Christopher Ross called 911 to report the theft shortly after midnight. However, authorities said they did not disclose that he had a business relationship with the marijuana grower with the suspects he reported to the authorities. The four deputies entered the development operation to look for the robbers when Vasquez-Orozco opened fire on them. Ishmael was shot several times and died within minutes on the spot, authorities said. An out-of-office San Joaquin County MP who was on duty with Ishmael was also injured when he was hit in the upper thigh, the sheriff’s office said. Two other men arrested and charged with Ismail’s death Romiro Bravo Morales was arrested for aiding and abetting a crime. He was subsequently convicted of a felony violation of the accessory. Ross, who started the appeal for help, was convicted of a felony, intentional homicide and possession of marijuana for sale. He faces up to 11 years and eight months in prison, according to El Dorado County Attorney Vern Pierson. “Ishmael was a four-year veteran in the office of the sheriff of El Dorado County and previously worked at the Placerville Police Department. He left behind a wife and three children,” Pierson said in a statement. | Video below | El Dorado County MP recalled at the memorial “What I said at the time of this horrific murder remains true today, we lost one of our heroes.
